Choosing gold for a wedding

Wedding gold is often chosen by the whole family, sometimes over several visits. Many families look for a set that works together, such as a necklace with matching earrings and a pair of bangles, and add pieces that carry meaning in their own tradition, such as a thali or mangalsutra.

Customs differ between communities and families, so there is no single right list. Bring the people whose opinion matters, and we will show you designs side by side so you can decide together. Our article on gold in Indian traditions explains why gold matters so much at weddings.

Why bridal jewellery is usually 916

Bridal pieces are worn at the ceremony and then kept for a lifetime, often passed down. 916 (22K) gold is 91.6% pure, strong enough to hold intricate work and keep its shape, and it keeps its value as gold. See 22K or 24K gold for why pure 24K is better kept for bars and coins.

How to plan the budget

A simple set: necklace, earrings and a pair of bangles.

A wedding set is a large purchase, so it helps to understand how each piece is priced:

  1. Gold value: the day's 916 rate multiplied by the weight. Heavier pieces cost more, whatever the design.
  2. Making charge: the craftsmanship. Detailed work costs more to make.
  3. GST: 9% on the selling price.

Gold prices move daily, so check today's gold rate while you plan, and ask us to break every quote down before you pay. If you have old family gold, you can trade it in to reduce the cost of new pieces.

Looking after bridal gold

Bridal gold is often worn a few times and then stored for years. Keep each piece separately, in a soft pouch or its own box, so harder pieces do not scratch softer ones, and put jewellery on after perfume and cosmetics. If a clasp or setting loosens, bring the piece in before it is lost.

Can old family gold become part of the set?

Yes. Some families prefer to keep heirloom gold in the family by having it reworked. Our custom and redesign service starts with a conversation in the showroom about the design, the weight and the making charge before any work begins.

Yes. The showroom is open every day from 10.30am to 9.30pm, and you can walk in without an appointment.

Is wedding jewellery subject to GST?
